The last three months of the year go fast. Between year-end deadlines, the holidays, and planning for what’s next, marketing is usually the first thing that slips.
We get it. Most of the business owners we work with are wearing every hat at once. But Q4 is one of the best times to get your marketing in shape. A few smart moves now mean you finish the year strong and walk into January with a plan instead of a scramble.
Here’s the checklist we walk through with our own clients every fall.
1. Look back at what actually worked
Before you plan anything new, look at this year’s results. Which posts got people talking? Which ads brought in real leads, not just clicks? Where did your best customers find you?
You don’t need a complicated report. Even a quick look at your website traffic, social engagement, and where your leads came from will tell you what to keep doing and what to stop.
This is the step most businesses skip, and it’s the one that saves the most money.
2. Put your remaining budget where it counts
If you have marketing budget left for the year, don’t let it sit or spend it on something random just to use it.
Put it toward what step one showed you is working. That might be boosting your best-performing content, running a targeted ad campaign, or investing in something you’ve been putting off, like updated photos or a website refresh.
Smart spending beats more spending every time.
3. Clean up the basics
Your Google Business Profile and website are often the first impression someone gets of your business. Take 30 minutes to make sure they’re accurate:
-
Hours, phone number, and address are correct
-
Photos are current and show who you really are
-
Services and pricing reflect what you offer today
-
Recent reviews have a response
It’s not flashy work, but it builds trust, and trust is what turns a search into a phone call.
4. Plan your holiday content now
The holidays sneak up on everyone. Map out your posts, emails, and any special hours now so you’re not writing a Thanksgiving post the night before.
Let people know when you’re closed, share a thank-you to your customers and team, and give them a reason to remember you heading into the new year.
A little planning in October means a much calmer December.
5. Set clear goals for 2027
“Grow next year” isn’t a goal. “Get 10 more qualified leads a month” is.
Pick two or three specific goals for the year ahead, and then decide what your marketing needs to do to support them.
When your goals are clear, every post, ad, and email has a purpose. That’s the difference between marketing that keeps you busy and marketing that actually grows your business.
You don’t have to do this alone
We’ve been helping businesses plan, build, and grow their marketing for 14 years, and this is the part we love.
Nothing makes us happier than seeing a client start the year with a clear plan and watching it pay off month after month.
If this checklist feels like one more thing on an already full plate, let us take it off. We’ll look at what’s working, build a plan around your goals, and show up every month so you can focus on running your business.
